This live performance for an 8.4-channel speaker system is part of the larger series FROM WITHIN A FIELD. For this iteration Neumann is using multiple simultaneous lower frequencies that are tuned to the room. In this way the room response becomes the content of the piece. The low frequencies (essentially times) are also applied to millisecond shifts in the different outputs to the speaker system, creating spatial modulations. Through creating a slowly growing and shifting field of tones Neumann is underlining the fact that in sound time and space are inseparable. Listening from within this field becomes more important than listening to something.
